Last Saturday afternoon, one of Clayton's oldest citizens died at his home after a long illness -- Mr. J. D. Adams. He has suffered with paralysis for quite a while and now he is resting where this is no pain. He was a member of the Methodist church and had served his Lord and Master well. He leaves a wife and several children and a host of friends. The family have our deepest sympathy.
His wife of 37 years later moved in with her son Ernest, and died at his home in Raleigh in 1920 at age 80.
His stepdaughter, Bettie Sturdivant, married his brother, David Washington Adams (1834-1919), becoming his (2nd) wife.
